Alan Wake is getting remastered in 4K, with all DLC, for PC this fall

Rumors of an Alan Wake remaster were swirling around the internet over Labor Day weekend. It’s hard to say if developer Remedy Entertainment was planning to reveal its updated Stephen King novel simulator today. Regardless, Alan Wake Remastered has been revealed, and it will update the game and all its DLC to 4K visuals when it releases on PC this fall.

A new Alan Wake, or at least a revisit, has likely been a dream for Remedy every since it won back the rights to the series. For the last decade, the developer has reminisced fondly on the 2010 game. In 2019, publishing rights for Alan Wake reverted back to Remedy, which increased the chances of a remaster or even a sequel. With an Alan Wake Remastered heading to PC, the possibilities of an Alan Wake 2 may be looming ever closer.

But until then, we will return to Bright Falls later this year. Earlier today, Sam Lake revealed the remaster on The Sudden Stop, an Alan Wake community blog that has been around since 2012. Lake has been voicing his adoration of the game for years. In a message to fans, he gushed a little bit more.

“This is for you. Alan Wake came out over 11 years ago, and through that time, you have told us again and again how much you love the game, the story, the characters, and the lore,” Lake wrote. “And that matters a lot to us. We love this game as well. I love this game. The remaster is coming because of your support for Alan Wake through the years.”

Still the unanswered mystery

Alan Wake Remastered will bring 4K visuals to its base game and all its DLC. It includes both the expansions: The Signal and The Writer. And while the game is set to look much better than it did more than a decade ago, Lake writes that it won’t receive drastic changes. The game will look better, with updates to the cinematics and Alan Wake’s character model. However, that will be all.

Alan Wake Remastered is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago,” Lake wrote. “We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades.”
