Not that there was a multitude of possible picks to mull over last month, but we did choose a winner regardless. It’s the latest in the Darksiders series.
This month, January, is a black hole of video game releases. Everybody knows that. But it seems like less know that December is too. The last month of the year is much like the first, though for a very different reason.
December is just too late for a monster slate of new releases. Publishers want to make advantage of the Holiday rush, including Black Friday. The window is just too small by the time the actual holidays come rolling in. And the result is a handful of new games of note, and that’s about it.
This December we did get one pretty big release, though it was muted by platform exclusivity. Darksiders Genesis did hit the PC, but didn’t launch on the PS4, Xbox, or even Switch. Instead it landed on Google’s pretty much dead on arrival Stadia. It’ll remain there till next month, when it hits the Xbox and PS4.
Lack of hoopla aside though, Genesis offered a hack and slash twist to what fans have come to expect from the series. More of a side-story than a sequel, Genesis also offered up a fresh tale starring the horsemen War, and the gun-slinging Strife.
Uh, yeah, there were none. Genesis nabbed all the editor votes here at BG for December’s GotM. We did include Mechwarrior 5, the Switch edition of Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, and Ancestors in the voting though.
