Warhammer 40k: Inquisitor – Martyr makes environments go boom for the glory of the Emperor.
For a game that I didn’t even know existed before today, NeocoreGames’ Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is mighty impressive. The developer knows very well what they’re doing with ARPG’s of course, as their Van Helsing series has gotten its fair share of critical and fan acclaim. And it looks like Inquisitor – Martyr is a sort of spiritual successor to that steampunk/fantasy series.
It looks like an evolution as well, since you can chew up the scenery to a pretty great degree in the game. As you can see in the trailer/doc above too, this is no cosmetic effect either, as you can actually take out enemies by knocking down pillars, and blast away at enemies’ cover, leaving them vulnerable.
Actually, there’s another added element that looks to make a huge difference in gameplay here – a cover system. Used to great effect in third-person shooters (a’la Gears of War), cover systems have’ve played into action/RPGs to any level in the past. Here though, you’ll notice that it’s a huge part of things and crosses over into the destructible-environment element as, while you can take cover, that cover won’t exactly last if you stay in it for too long. So some added strategy to the firefights there too.
No release date to report yet (or platforms, but figure on a PC release), but lots to like in Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. We’ll have plenty more on it as we go.
