Developer Streum On Studio’s first go at the Warhammer 40K universe is looking as sharp as a Genestealer’s claws in this first look at Space Hulk: Deathwing’s campaign.
Not seen for a while till now, I have to say Deathwing is looking pretty freaking great. The FPS has a familiar feel to it, harkening back to the first Space Hulk titles on the PC and 3DO back in the ’90s. Of course, it looks a heck of a lot better than any of those did, and seems a lot faster-paced too.
Playing as a Librarian (don’t worry, they’re a lot cooler than they sound), you and your Space Marine ‘Deathwing’ Terminator squad will be infiltrating the Space Hulk Olethros, in an effort to wipe out the Genestealer infestation and reclaim lost relics. You’ll be able to make use of Psyker powers (see, I told you Librarians were cool), as well as the iconic weaponry of the Space Marine Deathwing chapter, and advance along a total of 5 skill trees.
The trees will allow you to “improve your abilities, unlock new powers, access powerful relics and devastating new weapons.” It sounds like your squad will level-up too, earning new ways to devastate the Genestealers as they go. Even cooler, in four-player co-op games, you can respond as one of the vicious aliens and make the rest of the game miserable for your former teammates.
Oh, and if you’re a little confused as to what a Space Hulk is exactly, they’re basicaly the coolest things ever.
Space Hulk drift along the currents of the Warp, the immaterial dimension of Chaos. Made up of gigantic mangled asteroids, derelict ship wrecks and other spatial debris, they sometimes grow to the size of a moon and often contain treasured and ancient lost technologies. However, they are ripe with danger including infestations of the lethal Genestealer.
No release date is set yet for Space Hulk: Deathwing, but you can expect to see arrive for the PC later this year.
