Genshin Impact guide: Childe/Tartaglia’s weapons, artifacts, and talents
Childe’s/Tartaglia’s weapon: Rust or Viridescent Hunt
What makes Rust amazing is its normal attack damage boost. Even if Childe/Tartaglia is a hybrid character, this bow’s perk still applies to melee attacks. If you do need a substitute, then the Viridescent Hunt can be used since it’s got crit rate as a main stat.
Artifact sets: 4x Heart of Depth or 2x Heart of Depth/2x Noblesse Oblige
Ideally, you’ll want four Heart of Depth pieces, prioritizing ATK and ATK%. If you can find a piece that rolled with crit rate and crit damage as main stats, then those are great, too. For the goblet/cup, make sure you’ve got Hydro Damage Bonus as a main stat to further increase Tartaglia’s DPS capabilities. Lastly, for sub stats, you’ll want even more crit rating and crit damage. If you can’t get decent rolls, just level-up the ones that you do have and use them as fodder once you’ve farmed better ones.
Still, if you can’t get good rolls for the Heart of Depth’s 4-piece bonus, then you can consider just using two pieces of that plus two pieces of the Noblesse Oblige. The Noblesse Oblige’s 2-piece bonus for your elemental burst is still helpful.
Talents priority: Raging Tide (skill) > Obliteration (burst)
Childe’s elemental skill, Foul Legacy: Raging Tide, allows him to switch to melee stance. His bow turns into a water-based polearm, and melee attacks will inflict the Riptide status. Subsequent hits on enemies affected by Riptide deal AoE Hydro damage, and kills will spread the Riptide effect to nearby foes.
Later, once you’ve leveled him up, you’ll get a passive that allows normal and charged melee attacks to apply Riptide after you land a crit. Given how Childe does consistently high damage while in melee stance, his elemental skill should be prioritized when leveling his talents.
His elemental burst, Havoc: Obliteration, is also something you’ll want to boost down the line. You should be using this in melee stance after multiple hostiles have been affected by Riptide to proc a deadly blast.
Character ascension materials
- Insignias – Dropped by Fatui agents.
- Varunada Lazurite – Dropped by the Oceanid elite; purchased from Souvenir Shop; higher-tier versions can be crafted by an alchemist NPC.
- Cleansing Heart – Dropped by the Oceanid elite.
- Starconch – Gathered from beaches.
There are lots of Starconch lying around on the beaches of Yaoguang Shoal and Guyun Stone Forest. There are a few found in Dragonspine, but I would advise farming there since the Sheer Cold effect can be a nuisance.

Genshin Impact: Childe/Tartaglia summary
Without a doubt, Childe/Tartaglia is one of the most impressive characters in Genshin Impact‘s roster. To date, he’s actually the only character I’ve decided to boost to 90 (the cost in materials can be quite exorbitant, but he’s worth it since he’s one of my faves).
Use support-type characters such as Venti and Bennett to set up your enemies and DPS rotation. Then, try to pop another ability such as Xiangling’s or Fischl’s before you proc elemental reactions from Childe. You could also get Qiqi to use her healing skill, allowing Childe’s Hydro attacks to freeze enemies.
With Childe/Tartaglia, you’ll see massive damage and lots of crits, making even the toughest fights a breeze. Just remember not to stay in melee stance for too long or the elemental skill will incur a lengthy cooldown as well.
