Cloudpunk adding first-person mode for more neon goodness

The neon-lit environments of many modern games have been a popular aesthetic for quite some time now. The upcoming CD Projekt Red epic that is Cyberpunk 2077 will likely be the mother of all brightly lit, futuristic games, but April’s Cloudpunk certainly is not too far behind. Developer Ion Lands definitely had a magical touch when creating their city. The streets are gorgeous to witness, with the cyberpunk city coming more to life in ways you never thought possible. Now, it is only going to get more magical with a new first-person camera.

New way to live

Cloudpunk currently has the camera following the player as you drive around in your vehicle. It switches to a more traditional side-on perspective like platformers when you are on foot. While it gives you more real estate to look at, the drawn-out look puts you a distance away from the action. With the addition of a new first-person camera, the experience is changed completely. Although the levels are essentially the same, the way Cloudpunk presents it in this new perspective is an eye-opener.

Not only does the city looks even brighter, but it definitely also provides a reminder of how futuristic life would be. Better get those eyes fixed or the neon will surely leave its mark.

Trickery afoot

According to Ion Lands’ studio head, Marko Dieckmann, “You can seamlessly transition from third to first-person and switch back to the original camera as well if you prefer that. While driving you can also keep the camera unlocked if you want.” When driving though, the plan is to keep that in third-person for now at least, since “that would be strange without cockpits.”

For those eager to jump into Cloudpunk in first-person, do note that it is currently in the game’s beta branch. A live version will arrive soon enough.
