Was it Mrs. Peacock, in the library, with the candle stick?! Actually no, turns out it was IDW, via a press release, that’s announced a new Clue comic book.
Get a Clue
Ready for a murder/mystery? Publisher IDW is, with their new Clue comic, turning the old board game into a new story-driven book. This might be a vastly different medium than Clue usually finds itself in, but you can rest assured that you’ll recognize the classic cast.
First off, Mr. Boddy is quite dead. And it’s his apparent murder that spurs the comic’s narrative. So who’s to blame? Why, one of the game’s classic suspects like “Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum and other classic characters” of course. Who else?
the book is just the latest venture from IDW and Hasbro. The two companies have previously partnered for Transformers and G.I. Joe books, as well as hate massive Hasbro shared-universe that debuted last year.
“Clue is one of Hasbro’s most iconic brands for good reason – it’s a fun murder mystery concept filled with colorful characters,” said Michael Kelly, Director of Publishing at Hasbro. “IDW has been our trusted partner in the comic world for a long time, and we are thrilled with the way they’ve translated the property to this new medium. Readers will love following along with the story and trying to unravel the mystery of the case.”
“Ask the average person, and they can tell you who the suspects in Clue are,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW Publishing’s President and CCO. “They are household names and have provided countless hours of entertainment for audiences across the globe. We are looking forward to building an intriguing new world with these characters.”
Follow the Clues
Not your typical comic book, Clue will offer readers a little something more. Things start off with Boddy’s murder, but they don’t end with it. Throughout the mini-series, more characters might be killed off, and it’ll be up to readers to follow the right clues to figure out the killer(s). The first issue will actually feature three endings. Some of those might just be red herrings too, leading your own investigation astray.
Taking you on this adventure? None other than Joe writer Paul Allor, and artist Nelson Dániel
“I am incredibly excited to be working on this project, especially with an artist as talented as Nelson Dániel,” said Allor. “In the grand tradition of the Clue franchise, we’re crafting a fun, exciting and at times completely bonkers story that will keep people guessing until the very end! I truly can’t wait for comics readers to step into the mansion and find out just what we have in store for them.”
Catch issue #1 of this 5 issue mini-series when it hits this coming June. There’ll be variant covers to watch for too, including the main illustration, with cover art from “Eisner award-winning artist Gabriel Rodriguez.
