Complete Ikari Warriors trilogy to be included in SNK 40th Anniversary Collection

One of SNKs biggest series pre-Neo Geo, the top down action of Ikari Warriors is back. The whole trilogy will be packed into the upcoming SNK collection.

Let’s fight!

A brief history of Ikari:

Shoot-em-ups were all the rage in ’80s, and in 1986, SNK launched Ikari Warriors, a game that took guerrilla carnage to a new level of lunacy! In this game, the player assumed the roles of two muscly men named Ralf Jones and Clark Steel (King of Fighters, anyone?), who were blasting and mowing down enemy forces in a South American jungle to save their commanding officer.

After the success of Ikari Warriors, there were two more entries in the series that took Ralf and Clark on further adventures, Victory Road (1988) and Ikari III: The Rescue (1990). Each of these titles brought a unique focus to the gameplay. Victory Road focused on the use of guns and explosives, while Ikari III: The Rescue brought more attention to hand-to-hand combat.

I remember the first and second Ikari Warriors pretty well. Both games got translations onto the NES, and I actually played a good deal of the two. Honestly though, I can really only remember getting frustrated by them. Yep, they’re pretty tough games, and even in co-op mode I don’t recall getting all that far in either one.

That’s probably why I’m actually excited to play them again, as a part of this collection. Partly, that’s because I don’t know if these were actually hard games, or if I was just easily frustrated.

Landing on the Nintendo Switch, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will arrive on November 13th.
