Dragon Age gets some multiplay with 4 player co-op

Dragon Age: Inquisition impressions and new gameplay trailers

If you were wondering where Dragon Age: Inquisition’s multiplayer was, wonder no more.

“For Dragon Age: Inquisition, a special team of veteran developers from the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises created fun, fast-paced multiplayer gameplay that requires strategic teamwork on top of Inquisition’s party-based combat and extensive loot and crafting system,” said Aaryn Flynn, General Manager, BioWare. “It was early in the game’s development that we realized how much fun fans of our series were having, with so many players teaming up in Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode. We can’t wait to give Dragon Age fans an even bigger and deeper experience.”

And that ‘surprise’ is a whole separate quest, especially created for four players. These missions exist separate from the main, single-player storyline and take place right alongside it, in the same overall narrative. Basically, you play as another member of the group that the Inquisitor controls.

More action-oriented, players will be able to dungeon crawl as in the main game, as well as “collect loot, salvage items, craft new weapons and armor, and unlock new characters.” ‘New characters’, you say? Yes, right from the jump, Inquisition’s multiplayer mode will have a total of 12 characters to play as, divvied up into three character classes- warrior, rogue, and mage.

BioWare and EA are stressing that this multiplayer add-on is exactly that, and will not have any effect on the main tale told in the base game. Even though it takes place at the same time as Dragon Age: Inquisition, it’s a wholly stand-alone collection of missions, characters, and events.

More DA:I to play through isn’t a bad thing in any way either, as it’s shaping up to be a pretty phenomenal game. We had a chance to watch the game in action a while ago and were knocked over by the looks and the detail (and emotion) that’s gone into revamping the world of Thedas.

Not terribly much longer now, Dragon Age: Inquisition arrives on PC and consoles on October 7th.
