Duelist class guide — Weapon, ability, and passive

Rogue Legacy 2 Duelist Class Guide Feature

The Duelist is one of the most fun classes to play in Rogue Legacy 2. It is a highly mobile melee class that can output a lot of burst damage. Its combination of great damage output and mobility makes the Duelist perfect for attacking and then quickly retreating to a safe distance. Duelist can be the perfect choice for those that like to stay on the move. This class has average health and above average mana. We put together this handy guide to help you get the most out of the Duelist class while playing Rogue Legacy 2.

Unlocking the Duelist class requires your castle to be at level 18. Depending on which order you unlock Castle upgrades, you may reach the Duelist before this level. If so, it is advised to upgrade Strength through Arsenal, a castle upgrade that becomes available after unlocking the Valkyrie class. You’ll want to maximize Arsenal out in the future anyway, so it doesn’t hurt to gain some extra Strength early on.

Saber

The Saber is a straight blade that was often used by European cavalry between the 1600s and 1800s. In modern culture, its main use is as a dueling weapon in fencing. Rogue Legacy 2‘s interpretation of the Saber takes inspiration from fencing, with the weapon’s rapid attack speed being its biggest selling point. In fact, it has the fastest attack recovery speed of any melee weapon in the game.

There are two different attack types for the Saber. One is a ground attack that lunges into enemies, while the other is a sweeping aerial swing. Ordinarily, the ground attack has a slight delay between lunges but, if it is used directly straight after an aerial swing, it happens immediately. This makes it ideal to combo these attacks together. Furthermore, you can guarantee a critical hit by dashing as the follow-up lunge lands. This technique requires some practice, but, when mastered, the Saber can deal an awful lot of damage in a short period of time.

Combat Roll

The Duelist class is officially the Dark Souls of Rogue Legacy 2 classes. Jokes aside, the Combat Roll is one of the best talents in the game, as it offers nearly unparalleled mobility. Combat Roll allows you to roll either under or through enemies without taking any damage. This is incredibly strong during boss fights, as it allows you to avoid the majority of attacks with ease.

Even better is that Combat Roll only has a two-second cooldown. Hardly any enemies in Rogue Legacy 2 attack multiple times within two seconds, meaning this talent will almost always be off cooldown. It is an exceptional safety net that you can rely on to dodge most incoming attacks.

Show-off

It’s only fitting that such a flashy class would have a passive ability called Show-off. Show-off makes it so that every time Combat Roll is utilized, the user becomes Charged. While Charged, the next attack with the Saber will always deal critical damage. The Charged buff only last one second though, so you have to be quick to take advantage of it.

This passive compliments the Combat Roll, and is the final piece as to what makes the Duelist one of the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2. The Combat Roll can be used to phase through an enemy and avoid their attack and then Show-off can be triggered to deal some hefty damage. It’s a nasty combination that works well against every type of enemy.
