The Batman: Arkham series is ending with a bang in 2015 with a game that looks to capture everything that’s so appealing about one of the greatest comic book characters of all time.
I’m a fan of both Arkham Asylum and City from developer Rocksteady. To me they were both defining takes on the Dark Knight, the likes of which had never been seen before in a game. Batman: Arkham Knight though, this one looks to be all that much better. Not only does having the power of the PS4 and Xbox One to play with mean a bigger play environment, but it makes the world of the comics all the much more of a reality thanks to the fact that we actually get to romp around the ‘real’ Gotham City this installment.
No walls or zoned off areas here, this is Gotham plain and simple and it looks huge. When sitting atop his balcony at Wayne Tower (how cool was that by the way?), Batman could see all around the besieged city, including to the outer boroughs. It’s still up in the air how massive Gotham will be, but it sure looks like a plentiful playground for the Dark Knight to bust some skulls in. The only thing that’d make it better would be being able to drive the famous car- and we get to do that too.
A game-changer in the biggest of ways for the series, gamers will get to drive and use the Batmobile to the fullest of its abilities in Arkham Knight. And against the drone forces of the mysterious Arkham Knight, it looks like Batman is going to need al the help he can get. The car is definitely unique amongst Batmobiles that we’ve seen before in various forms of the Batman story, but it’s also kind of an amalgamation with nods to several of the cars from throughout his history.
Oh, and that bit with Scarecroew at the end? Brilliant.
A next-gen exclusive. Batman: Arkham Knight swoops onto the Xbox One, PS4, and PC some time in 2015 from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and Rocksteady.
