Many regard Resident Evil 4 as one of the greatest games ever created, so naturally, it has seen more rereleases than one can count. A couple of those rereleases, namely the Wii port and the recently launched VR version, allowed players to experience this classic in a whole new way. While the fan-made Resident Evil 4 HD Project mod does not change the experience quite as much as those two did, it nonetheless looks insanely impressive and ambitious, which only makes sense since it remained in development for around eight years. This long wait will finally come to a close on February 2, but before then, fans can enjoy this final trailer for Resident Evil 4 HD Project that the modders put together ahead of release.
In total, this new trailer lasts around five minutes, more than enough time for fans to appreciate all of the hard work that went into this mod. Many HD touchups of classic games look disappointingly sloppy or garish in execution, but this mod absolutely nails that fine balance between modernization and preservation. The updated models, textures, and lighting look genuinely impressive, and the modders managed to implement those improvements in the Ada campaigns and Mercenaries mode as well. In short, it looks like how one would remember Resident Evil 4 in their head, which is exactly what remasters should ideally strive for.
A remarkable achievement
Today, players have so many ways to play Resident Evil 4, and judging by the trailer, this HD mod seems like it could be one of the best versions available. At the very least, it will provide fans with yet another reason to replay a game they have likely played through several times over already. Players will need to download Resident Evil 4 on Steam before they can try out the mod, but as one would expect, the mod itself will be completely free of charge.
The Resident Evil 4 HD Project mod will release on February 2.
