Another Gears trailer highlighted with a cover of a classic tune sets the scene for a spoiled post-Locust future.
Fantastic marketing as usual from Gears of War, which might have changed hands from Epic Games to Microsoft, but looks to have lost none of its flair for the dramatic. And I don’t mean that as a negative either, as Gears has had a history of producing some truly remarkable trailers to back up what’s become one of the biggest franchises on Xbox.
As for details, well we do see some interesting elements at play here in what’s called the ‘Tomorrow’ trailer for Gears 4. For starters, it looks like the planet of Sera did indeed move on after the Locust wars shown in the first three Gears of War games, as well as the side-story of Judgement. It certainly seems as though star Marcus Fenix did as well, settling down and having a child.
And it’s that child that you play as in Gears 4, taking up arms as JD, Marcus’ son. Although it could be just done for the trailer, it looks like the Fenix farm isn’t doing so well either, seemingly under siege from an enemy force known as the Swarm. If that’s actually the case, then Gears 4 could tell a somewhat personal story. Perhaps JD is on his way to save his parents?
Hard to tell, as all this could just nothing of significance. We’re likely to find out before long though, as Gears of War 4 is scheduled to anchor the Xbox One’s holiday season this year, and should be on the shelves by Fall. We’re likely to see plenty of it too, come E3 time this June.
