Legendary Comics’ newest adds more Titan-ic action to the Monsterverse, filling in the gaps between the first Godzilla film and the sequel.
As shared universes go, the Monsterverse is off to an excellent start. Far from trying to flood the market with movies, the series is taking its time which is the right way to go. It shows, since the first two movies in the line have been pretty great.
Now we’re on the eve of a second Godzilla film, following up on the likes of not just the first one but also Kong: Skull Island. The big guy is even crossing over into the world of comic books, with Godzilla: Aftershock.
The book continues the story after the events in San Francisco from that first movie. A new monster has risen up, a nasty Titan capable of triggering massive earthquakes. Standing in its way of course, is Godzilla.
“Part of the fun of working on a Godzilla project is that its massive scale demands that it be a collaboration with talented artists and AFTERSHOCK is no exception,” said Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty. “Arvid Nelson and Drew Edward Johnson have created a story that is just as epic and compelling as Godzilla’s big screen adventures. So much so that it sometimes feels like you’re flipping through the storyboards of a movie just waiting to be shot.”
“Arvid and Drew have created a riveting prequel that adds to the Monsterverse while acting as a story bridge between the two Godzilla films,” said Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics.
