The launch trailer certainly stirs up the butterflies for those who have fond memories of Halo 3. It was one of the biggest games of its time back in 2007, but only Xbox console owners could enjoy it. Now, PC players can also enjoy the legendary experience with the benefits of multiple enhancements. 343 has been hard at work adding modern features like mouse and keyboard support, 4k rendering, FoV sliders, and uncapped frame rates. We tested them out during the beta test and can confirm that Halo 3 looks and runs great.
The developer will also improve existing features like the Forge custom map maker, character customizations, and other details. 343 provides regular, in-depth development updates on The Master Chief Collection. Check them out to learn more about the changes and improvements coming to Halo 3 for PC.
Get ready for new Halo 1 content too
Season 2 of The Master Chief Collection will also coincide with the launch of Halo 3 on PC. The new season will add free unlockable cosmetic content to Halo 1, like weapon skins, vehicle skins, and armor customizations. Forge support will also arrive for all of the existing titles in the collection.
The game officially goes live on July 14 at 10:00 a.m. PT and is available on Steam or the Microsoft Store. The file size was not mentioned, but this is an older game, so it shouldn’t keep players waiting too long. Just like with every title in The Master Chief Collection, you can also purchase Halo 3 individually for $9.99. However, there’s significantly more value in purchasing the entire collection for $39.99.
It looks like the folks at Steam are excited for Halo 3 too. The store is running a 20%-off sale that’s good for another 46 hours. That means you can grab six Halo games for just $31.99. If you do take advantage of the sale, keep in mind that not all of the games are available yet. 343 should complete the remaining ports before the launch of Halo: Infinite later this year.
