Hot Wheels Unleashed racing onto consoles and PC this fall

Get ready to roll out on some giant plastic (virtual) tracks. Iconic toy property Hot Wheels is making the jump to video games this fall.

Not die-cast

I think it’s probably fair to say that almost everybody on Earth (or at least in the western world) had a bunch of Hot Wheels cars when they were a kid. It seems like at least a few of them have turned up in every child’s collection at some point or another.

If you have fond memories of the brand, then you’ll likely dig the news that the diminutive vehicles are on the way to the video game world. That’s thanks to a newly announced game from Mattel and developer Milestone.

Yes, there’ll be orange tracks. Lots of ’em.

Gamers can get ready to drift, boost, jump and crash on Hot Wheels’ iconic orange tracks in various single player game modes. Gamers can also challenge friends in multiplayer races, both online and offline, leveraging a split screen mode.

Mattel

Told you. Orange tracks. Courses will be set in ‘everyday-life’ locales. Presumably, that means those raceways will mimic the feel of playing with the toys in and around your home, etc. And if you don’t love the ones that are included, the game will ship with a course-maker too. Now that’s pretty slick.

Aside from the aforementioned tracks too, you can also expect a surplus of cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed. According to the press release, the game will offer “an extended choice of Hot Wheels vehicles with different attributes and rarity levels that players can customize with different skins”.

Ready to burn some lil’ rubber wheels? Well, it’s going to be a little while. Hot Wheels Unleashed is set to hit consoles and the PC this September. It should be ready for pre-order very soon (or right now) though, so you can lock up a copy for yourself.
