The biggest G.I. Joe event yet in the comics world, IDW Publishing has a doozy of a tale on the way with Cobra World Order.
Following the massively popular (seriously, I couldn’t track down a copy of any of the issues at my LCS) Death of Snake-Eyes arc, Cobra is about to effect its master plan, the complete domination of the world. It’s a big time story, and one that only long-time Joe scribe Larry Hama could bring to the fore. The series will run a total of 8 issues, in bi-weekly fashion, starting in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issues #219 and 220.
“What we have seen of Cobra’s plans in G.I. JOE: ARAH to date is just the tip of the iceberg,” said series writer, Hama. “Other players in the Cobra periphery—like Destro and Zartan—are making their moves so as to be in on whatever benefits accrue from Cobra Commander’s master plot. Meanwhile, Hawk leads an international team around the globe to uncover the details of this sinister conspiracy.”
“After the Death of Snake Eyes, I didn’t think Larry would come up with something that could top a story like that… but the more we talked about COBRA WORLD ORDER and the more details he gave me about COBRA’s momentous scheme, the more I saw this as a perfect event: something accessible to new readers that still pays off years of worldbuilding and storytelling in G.I. JOE: ARAH. Fans—new and old alike—are gonna be blown away!” said IDW editor, Carlos Guzman.
S.L. Gallant will be handling the interior artwork across all parts of the arc, though the Prelude issue will sport a series of pretty darn awesome alt covers. Paul Pope takes the standard cover, while variant covers are on the way from Francesco Francavilla and Phil Jimenez, and there’s also an Artist’s Edition variant by Stephen Mooney and a Blank Sketch variant.
This is a big one folks, and if you’re a G.I. Joe fan, then you won’t want to miss an issue. Cobra World Order kicks off in October.
