SCS Software is building on its longest-running simulator by adding to a recently-introduced feature. The new 1.43 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 will include new viewpoints across the map, coming to a total of 35 new locations in all.
The new viewpoints are being pinned in different locales, “from cities and ports, to industrial areas”. With this new feature, the developer is actively inviting players to rediscover the map “from a different perspective”.
What’s old is new again
Viewpoints are short cutscenes that pan the camera around notable vistas, from manmade marvels like enormous bridges and dams, to natural structures like waterfalls, rivers and canyons. They were introduced a little while back in American Truck Simulator, and have since come to ETS2 with the release of the Iberia expansion a few months ago. Now, the rest of the sim is getting the same treatment.
American Truck Simulator still lacks map-wide viewpoints, so this update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 indicates that they may get added to ATS in the future.
Beyond this, SCS is actively working on Euro Truck Simulator 2’s largest expansion to date: the Heart of Russia. It will finally push the map eastward into the country’s mainland. Similarly, over in the world of American Truck Simulator, the great state of Texas is officially in the works.
Release dates for either of these projects have not yet been revealed, as they’re still relatively early on in development. Nevertheless, both sims have grown quite a bit this year with the release of various new trucks for ETS2 from Renault and DAF, the Wyoming expansion for American Truck Simulator, and the long-awaited inclusion of official multiplayer support across both titles. It doesn’t look like there will be any more gigantic updates to either of these sims for the rest of the year, but there is a lot to look forward to from SCS Software.
