PC Building Simulator free on the Epic Games Store next week

Has the idea of building your own custom PC crossed your mind before, but you don’t know where to start? At first, it may seem like there are tons of parts and models to make sense of, and there are plenty of rules you need to carefully consider lest you end up breaking something or building a wonky system. That’s certainly true, though most issues can be overcome by following a good PC building tutorial. For those that would like to get in a little more practice before trying the real thing though, there’s the PC Building Simulator game, which will be free on the Epic Games Store next week.

Starting on October 7 at 11 AM ET, you’ll be able to claim this title for free. Even if you’re not planning to build a PC until graphics cards are easy to find again, you can still add this title to your library and download it later. The PC Building Simulator game obviously doesn’t fully prepare you for the rigors of building your own machine, but it is a great way to test your knowledge and improve it via what are essentially interactive walkthroughs.

You can configure all kinds of different builds to see what goes where, what’s required to optimize things, and you might start to even develop a natural interest in learning more about tech as a result. Once you start to demystify the basics, you’ll see that basic PC building is actually quite doable for most people. At the very least, you’ll develop a greater appreciation for those that do build their own systems.

Once you get the basics down, you can even start working on more exotic builds like custom water cooling loops or building overclocking monsters. One particularly unique thing about this game is that the developer partnered with a bunch of real brands to develop accurately-modeled components. In this sense, you can build your own virtual dream PC.

That’s right, you can download more RAM, CPUs, and more

In addition to the base game, you can download sponsored workshop DLC from real brands and look forward to future updates that will add new products. For instance, the developer recently added Intel 11th gen processors. Given this game is basically free advertising, it’s no wonder brands line up to add their new products to it.

You’ll have one week to claim PC Building Simulator for free on the Epic Games Store once it goes live on October 7. If you plan to download it, make sure you have 30 GB of free space for the build. It doesn’t actually take much of a workhorse PC to build others, so you should be fine to run it as well. In the meantime, you can grab Europa Universalis IV right now. It’s a grand strategy game if you’re into that genre.
