Red dead Redemption is out on Xbox One! Oh wait, no it’s not.

Did you hear that Red Dead Redemption was out on Xbox Live’s servers? Were you planning on getting it? Well…

So, Microsoft tests out every game that’s being considered for Xbox One/360 backwards compatibility. According to Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) they do this through the use of emulation, just before launch so they can test everything out and make sure it’s all working. These tests are presumably kept locked, so that gamers can’t see them on the user end of things. In other words, you’ll never log onto Xbox Live and see a game for sale that’s just being tested. Sometimes though, well, stuff.

Due to an error over the last few days, Red Dead Redemption (which is one of the most-requested Xbox 360 games to get the backwards-compat treatment to date) emerged on Xbox Live. Needless to say, people got excited.

Since the game wasn’t really ready for release though, it’s been subsequently yanked. I didn’t get in on this one, and no one else at BG has either, so I have no idea if you could have actually played the game during the period that it was apparently available, but you definitely can’t now.

Well, till it’s officially released that is. Which is something that I’d imagine we should be expecting some time soon.
