Remedy Entertainment has officially announced Control 2

Remedy Entertainment Announces Control 2 Codename Heron

Remedy Entertainment today has officially announced Control 2. While we’ve known that a sequel to Control was in the works, now we know the name at least won’t deviate from the standard. Control 2, once called Codename Heron, is official.

Remedy’s own Mikael Kasurinen, the Control franchise game director, also shared a quick update. Kasurinen writes that Control 2 will be Remedy’s second “leap into the unknown.” He also confirms that, while the name is confirmed, development is still in early phases. Alongside the update is a piece of concept art, showcasing a room likely within The Oldest House (because where else could it take place?).

“With Control, we leaped into the unknown,” Kasurinen writes. “We wanted to create something new. Something different and unexpected. A world like no other. Thank you, the audience, for making Control such a success for us. With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown. It’ll be an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait.”

Control 2 is in development, as is its spin-off game and more

With Control 2 officially announced, we have multiple confirmed games in development at Remedy. The spin-off is likely even earlier in development than the sequel. Currently, it’s known as Codename Condor, and was at the proof-of-concept stage in late October according to Remedy. The developer wrote it was still working on “a multitude of important game design elements and finalize the key pillars before moving the project to the next development phase.” We probably won’t hear more until next year, or maybe later.

Remedy is also working on the highly anticipated Alan Wake 2. All three games, including a reported remake of Max Payne, are scheduled to launch before 2025. It’s possible we’ll see the first of these projects release in 2023.
