Resident Evil is heading back to the virtual landscape, for another round of VR terror. This time it’s last year’s Village, and the destination is PSVR 2.
Capcom confirmed a bunch of new stuff, via Sony’s State of Play event yesterday, and that included another run at virtual reality. The latest Resident Evil title will have gamers picking up the headset again, as they plunge into Village, which is coming to the PSVR 2.
Exclusive to the forthcoming headset, Village will be a PS5-only title and will have some enhancements for Sony’s new VR platform. That will come via the PSVR 2 Sense controllers. Those are much more akin to PC VR controllers than the old PlayStation Move sticks.
The story mode for the award-winning eighth main entry in the Resident Evil™ series is in development for PlayStation VR2 on PlayStation®5. Ethan Winters’ terrifying tale will deepen the immersion by utilizing the new headset’s 4KD HDR display, eye tracking, 3D audio, and other advanced features. The journey through Castle Dimitrescu and the surrounding village is more intense than ever before when experienced in VR, drawing players into a hyper-realistic world that virtually feels tangible.
Capcom press release
The PSVR 2 Sense controllers will allow players to “perform intuitive actions” in the game. Capcom points to being able to raise your arms to block enemy attacks as an example. But the new stuff won’t be limited to VR gimmicks, as Capcom also says that the game will have some new gameplay enhancements. Expect to see dual-wielding (among other things) make an appearance.
As you can imagine, there’s no release date yet for Resident Evil: Village on the PSVR 2, but the game is in development now.
