As Euro Truck Simulator 2 nears its 10-year anniversary milestone, the earliest parts of its ever-expanding map are beginning to look a bit dated. As a result, its team over at SCS Software has had the dedicated task of reconstructing such older areas for a little while now. One such area is Germany, which received some updates to its city of Hannover. In its latest development blog, SCS shows off the rework progress that’s been made to the Euro Truck Simulator 2 version of Stuttgart, Germany.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Germany rework project continues with Stuttgart

In order to facilitate all of the planned changes, the blog mentions how the scenery designers have had to pretty much level the virtual city and build it back up. This has a resulted in an “overall layout [that’s now] larger, and in addition to exploring the industrial areas, you can look forward to taking a drive through some parts of the city as well.”

Being able to truck through some more urbanized areas rather than just highways and back-country roads is becoming more and more of a commodity in both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. The recently released Texas expansion for the former sim has some explorable metro areas, too. So, it appears that SCS might be moving towards making such access a standard.

The scenery designers are making sure to preserve the “antiquity” of Stuttgart by preserving many of its historical landmarks, which players will get to admire and photograph.

What’s old is new again

As SCS retreads old ground all in addition to expanding more and more of the map, it brings a decent level of continuity to the whole package. The bar of quality has risen considerably for the level of scenery complexity across both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator since their original releases several years ago. With this being the case, it appears SCS is dedicating its resources to ensure each area continues to feel fresh.

There’s no hardline date for when support for either of these sims will finally come to an end. So, such Rework Projects and new expansions appear to have a long road ahead of them, yet. On that note, the next map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the West Balkans pack, following the continuing indefinite delay of the completed Heart of Russia expansion.

Stuttgart won’t be the end of the road for the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Germany rework project. SCS states that there will be more, and plans to share the news soon.
