SDCC 19: Star Trek: Picard brings back Data, Voyager’s 7 and more

Picard is set to further the Trek timeline in a big way, but with a seemingly smaller story. If you’re a TNG fan, you need to check this trailer out.

It’s been long time. Star Trek: The Next Generation came to a close (as a series) in 1994, and it wasn’t too long after that that DS9 and Voyager ended as well. Since then, Trek tales have either been prequels or set in entirely alternate universes. That is to say, until now.

Star Trek: Picard is set post-Next Generation. Again, it is the first official Trek series to further the “Prime” timeline, which is kind of a big deal. So far it’s also looking pretty good too, if the first trailer is anything to go by.

In it, Star Trek fans are treated to a few things and characters they haven’t seen in a while. For starters, there’s Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard. But then there’s the android Data, or more likely B-4. If you don’t remember, B-4 was the older “Data” unit that was activated after the actual Lieutenant Commander was destroyed at the close of Star Trek: Insurrection.

Not enough for you? How about we tie-in Voyager too with an appearance from Jeri Ryan’s former Borg Seven-of-Nine? Speaking of, Hugh the Borg will apparently be in this too, and there’s a glimpse of an actual Borg cube. That is a nice tease for what might be coming down the line (or it could just be a flashback).

All in all though, the show is looking… good. I’m a little surprised by that. I hadn’t thought there would be too much to get pumped for in Picard, but the trailer is absolutely loaded. It’s tough, as a fan, to not get excited about it.

Star Trek: Picard debuts on the CBS All Access streaming service this fall.
