Sea of Thieves sets sails for Steam in June

Microsoft has been on a tear when it comes to bringing its Xbox-branded content and new IP to the PC platform. This was the case when Rare, a Microsoft-owned studio, developed Sea of Thieves, launching on the Xbox One and PC. Previously though, the only way to play the game on PC was through the Microsoft Store. That will come to a close soon as the official Sea of Thieves Twitter revealed that its flagship pirate title will release on Steam June 3.

Ahoy, there!

There were some hints that Sea of Thieves would eventually make the jump to Valve’s digital storefront. For starters, back in April, a “Coming Soon” label and Steam page were launched, albeit with skimpy information regarding the actual launch. But that was cleared up today with the post on Twitter.

The announcement of Sea of Thieves‘ arrival on Steam also came with a few other bits of info. For starters, Rare revealed a new sizzle reel of sorts, showcasing the sights and sounds of a pirate’s life. A new Q&A section has also been added to the game’s Steam page, where discussions have already started to populate in the comments.

The more, the better

Sea of Thieves isn’t the first Microsoft Store game to make the leap onto Steam. Flagship titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Gears 5 have already found new homes there. All of the aforementioned games include some sort of multiplayer aspect, adding to the player count with cross-platform play. Sea of Thieves currently boasts a 10 million-player base with cross-play also part of its Steam makeup. This could potentially open up new waters for Steam players who have yet to experience Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves arrives on Steam on June 3 for $39.99 USD / £34.99 GBP / €39.99 EUR. You cannot pre-purchase the game at this time, but it can be added to your wishlist.
