Lo Wang returns from the ’90s to carve up next generation consoles this Fall.
If you remember Lo Wang (ahem) and Shadow Warrior, then I probably don’t have to explain why it’s awesome that developer Flying Wild Hog has brought him out of the days of Duke Nukem 3D’s Build Engine and into the present. Or actually, make that ‘future’ since the game will be seeing the next generation of gaming consoles.
Shadow Warrior tells the offbeat tale of Zilla Enterprise’s corporate shogun, Lo Wang, who is ordered by his employer to track down and acquire a legendary blade known as the Nobitsura Kage. Forced into a timeless battle, Lo Wang learns of the blade’s connection to ancient gods from another realm, pushing our world to the brink of destruction. Aided by Hoji, a banished spirit from this mysterious world, Lo Wang must use a masterful combination of gun, blade, magic and wit to discover the truth behind the demonic invasion and banish the encroaching forces back into the darkness.
So, in a nutshell, Shadow Warrior was chock full of crude humor (with an Asian tilt) and buckets of blood and gore. From the sound of things, Flying Wild Hog is keeping a good chunk of what made the game so popular with the Duke 3D set back in the day.
Also promising? Publisher Devolver Digital’s CFO Fork Parker says “It’s super f’n rad.” That’s a good sign in my book. If you’re looking for more SW, you can follow @_ShadowWarrior on Twitter or visit www.shadowwarrior.com.
Shadow Warrior is scheduled to arrive this Autumn on next generation consoles and the PC.
