Often overlooked in FPS’ and games in general, sound effects are a big part of making stuff go ‘boom’.
I’ve always been a fan of good sound design in games. And even with me, it’s all too easy to forget about stuff sounding good when it’s well done. Sure if a gun in a game sounds awful, or the explosions sound like firecrackers instead of missiles impacting, we’re quick enough as a gaming populace to say so, but when it sounds good? Well, it’s supposed to sound that way so why mention it at all?
Bottom line, sound effects are almost as important in a game as the graphics and storyline. And maybe just as important as the voice work… Call of Duty has pretty much always had great sound though. Right from the start, the series has felt right just as much in terms of the sounds that the Thompson submachine guns made, as the way they looked. Advanced Warfare will be no different in that respect, though everything else pretty much is in this future-set CoD that’s loaded with high-tech hardware and exoskeletons. And machine guns of course. Awesome-sounding machine guns.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare lands on the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, and PC this Fall.
