Hot on the heels of the recently released Space Hulk from Full Control ApS, comes another Space Hulk announcement. This one is very different from the turn-based affair that just released though.
We weren’t so hot on the top-down version of Space Hulk that just hit the market. Space Hulk: Deathwing though, that’s a whole ‘nother story. An FPS set in Games Workshop’s massively popular and longstanding tabletop game of the same name, Space Hulk: Deathwing casts players as a member of the Dark Angles Deathwing chapter of the Space Marines. One Terminator Librarian, caught alone in a massive Space Hulk…
Space Hulks drift along the currents of the Warp, the immaterial dimension of Chaos. Made up of gigantic mangled asteroids, derelict ship wrecks and other spatial debris, they sometimes grow to the size of a moon and often contain treasured and ancient lost technologies. However, they are ripe with danger including infestations of the lethal Genestealers.
Players take on the role of a Space Marine from one of the most secret and most feared Space Marine Companies: the Deathwing from the Dark Angels. Strap on your Terminator armour and equip the emblematic weaponry of the Space Marines to overcome the threats awaiting you in the Space Hulk. As a Librarian, you will also master the destructive powers of the Psykers. Your skills and performance in battle grant you Fervor Points, to spend on 4 skill trees allowing you to improve your abilities, unlock new powers, access powerful relics and devastating new weapons.
As a big time fan of not only the source material, but also the old Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angles title that appeared on the 3DO back in 1995, I’m pretty pumped for this one. Developer Cyanide Studio looks like they’ve got the feel right and the one marine alone against a horde of Genestealers (and whatever else might be out there in the void) is compelling- especially for the fact that the main character is a Librarian and can blast the bugs with a pretty awesome selection of Psyker abilities.
Space Hulk: Deathwing is sans release date and system availability at the moment, but we’ll keep you up to date as more news comes in for this promising title.
