Star Trek anthology series coming from IDW

IDW’s Star Trek universe is about to get a bit bigger, with the addition of an anthology comic series that encompasses the entirety of the mythos.

The best of all worlds

So far from IDW, we’ve seen Trek comics based on a few of the different shows, and both timelines. The current cinematic universe has probably taken the lion’s share of the content, but that’s about to change.

Starting this autumn, Star Trek Waypoint will bring fans of all Star Trek properties plenty of the good stuff. The book is set to deliver stories from fifty years of Trek, including Captains from Kirk to Picard to Archer (not necessarily in that order).

Showing the diversity right off the bat, the very first issue will showcase both the Original Series, and The Next Generation. And the talent behind these tales are grade ‘A’ as well, with Donny Cates and Matt Chater bringing you the TNG tale, and Sandra Lanz soloing a little Kirk and Spock.

Cates and Chater will team on the lead story set during Star Trek: The Next Generation era which sees Geordi La Forge and Data put their scientific minds together to decipher a mysterious ship’s coded message. Their discovery may alter the course of scientific human history as we know it!

Lanz will write and illustrate the back up taking place during Star Trek: The Original Seriesand shines a spotlight on Uhura as she navigates a strange planet. Stranded, she attempts to make contact with a bizarre alien creature.

From the description in the press release, it looks like each issue with feature a pair of standalone stories. So it’ll kind of be a series of one-shots in that way. And that should really dig into the Trek universe that IDW has quite nicely, offering up a little something for almost every fan.

As for the cover illustrations, look for the pencils of Marc Laming and Mark Buckingham for the first issue. They’ll be just part of a rotation of Star Trek talent for the complete series. A roster of artists from the complete history of Trek comics is reportedly on board. That’s a list that should produce some pretty spectacular work.

Look for Star Trek Waypoint to beam into comic shops and onto digital storefronts this coming September from IDW.
