Techland’s Hellraid slips to 2015, now coming to next-gen consoles

Hellraid has been through a near total retooling since it was announced by zombie-centric company Techland. Now the game has officially slipped into 2015, but it’s looking more impressive then ever before thanks to the next-gen (current-gen?) hardware that it’ll be running on when you finally get to play it.

With three different play modes and four player co-op, Hellraid might be one to seriously watch for dark fantasy fans. Now that the game has made the jump from Xbox 360 and PS3 to the One and PS4, it looks all that much better too. The character models always looked pretty nice, but really impressive are the environments, which look to have gotten a massive upgrade from what we’ve seen already in past previews.

Running on the Chrome Engine 6 now, which is what Dying Light will use as well, Hellraid will be getting “new physics-based lighting system, more detailed locations and character models, complex animations, advanced particle effects, and state-of-the-art AI systems”. And speaking of; intact in the move from past to current hardware generation is the AI system and the swordplay. This is something that Techland is seriously proud of and has poured a heck of a lot of time into for the game.

Presumably there’ll be even more done on the combat system now that the game has shifted generations. The developer is promising “weapon crafting, interactive environments, destructible objects and environmental traps, as well as challenging and adaptive enemy AI”, so there should be plenty to keep you busy once you draw your sword and dig into the game.

No release date as of year since the game about a year away, but you can expect to see Hellraid debut for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime in the calendar year 2015.
