Astoundingly, it’s Ubisoft’s 35-year anniversary. As an American, it’s a bit hard to be familiar with the company’s earlier titles, but it started making games for personal computers many of us have never heard of way back in 1986. To celebrate this milestone, the company is giving away all games from the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles trilogy on PC, adding to all the other free games that have been made available over the years. Players have until November 12 to add the games to their Ubisoft Connect accounts. As these titles sneaked under the radar (heh) for a lot of folks, this is a great time to spot them and watch your friends slowly get parried to death.
The first of the three titles, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, launched on April 21, 2015. Subsequently, India released on January 12, 2016, followed closely by Russia on Feburary 9, 2016. Each game is about five to six hours long, so they don’t take much time to get through individually. China was given away free in the past, so you may already have that. The trilogy was developed externally by Climax Studios, who is most famous for Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. It released to a mixed response, with its Metacritic scores all in the upper 60s.

All three games are 2.5D stealth games (yeah, not surprising) that are honestly quite reminiscent of Mark of the Ninja. Of course, stealth does work well in 2D. So there’s enjoyment to be had from these, even if they’re not up to the same high level of quality as Klei’s work. Regardless, you have plenty of time to get in on the festivities and grab the games for yourself. Personally, I’m surprised that Zombi isn’t being given away free, since the original came out in 1986, but what do I know?
