The Cowabunga Collection brings 13 classic games to PC this year

It certainly feels like 2022 has become the year of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, especially after today’s announcement. During the earlier PlayStation State of Play, Konami pulled a fast one by actually revealing something that didn’t immediately piss people off. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is an anthology of 13 classic Turtles games, and it’s coming to PC later this year.

It’s an impressive package. I’m sure there’s an argument to make that not all of these games are the great, but there quite a few heavy hitters in the group. TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection includes games from the NES as well as Game Boy systems. Yes, that means you can relive the pain of playing through the damn level of Teenage Mutant Turtles for the NES (and that one stupid jump). However, the collection also covers games on the arcade, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo.

Turtle power

TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is a no-brainer, but there are some unexpected inclusions. The Cowabunga Collection also features The Hyperstone Heist, which was like an altered version of Turtles in Time for the Genesis. It also includes both the SNES and Genesis versions of Tournament Fighters, so now you and your friends can argue over playing the good version or not.

Here’s the entire list, courtesy of Konami:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy)

It’s an impressive list of Turtles games, but that’s not all the collection has in store. TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection will also feature quality of life changes like save states, rewinding, remappable buttons, and a game guide. Five games are also online capable, including TMNT (arcade), Turtles in Time, The Hyperstone Heist, and the SNES version of Tournament Fighters.

TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection is coming at us from the folks at Digital Eclipse, and will release for PC this year for $39.99 USD. It’ll soon join Splinter in TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. The year of the turtle, indeed.
