This one’s not as long as fast delays, but it’s been a long road to retail for Sony’s The Last Guardian.
The last delay… hopefully
I make no bones about the fact that I’m not looking forward to The Last Guardian for the PS4. And I know I’m probably in the minority on that, but I just can’t drum up any enthusiasm for it. Then again, I’m biased. I didn’t enjoy either of Team Ico’s first two titles Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. They’re just not my bag, though they were both hits for many and critical darlings, so I don’t think there’s a shortage of fans.
As for The Last Guardian, well it’s been in the works for a long, long time. First announced waaaaaaay back in 2009 for the PS3, TLG has been through a series of delays and disappearances. For a long time, it just kind of vanished, dropping off of release schedules. It didn’t even appear at E3 for a while if I recall correctly.
In any event, that’s all over now
Yes, the Last Guardian is finally coming out. Eventually. But before that happens, the game will get smacked with one more delay. here just a short time before its scheduled release on October 25th.
SCE Studios President Shuhei Yoshida himself broke the news just this morning. So instead of the 25th of next month, you can look for The Last Guardian on the 6th of December. It’s not a huge delay by any means, but it is more waiting for Team Ico fans, who’ve done a hell of a lot of that over recent years.
As to why the latest delay, Yoshida went on to explain that the game is buggy, saying that “we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development”. Since this is a pretty important title, squashing as many bugs as is humanly possible before launch is a good idea.
Think of the disaster that there’d be if TLG finally hit the streets and it was a mess. Not great. So in the name of the developers being as thorough as possible, just hang tight a bit longer. You’ve waited this long after all, what’s another month?
