The Last of Us 2 delayed due to coronavirus pandemic

Easily one of Sony’s biggest games of the year, The Last of Us Part II has been officially delayed. Till when? No one is exactly sure.

The delay of us

A bit of a bummer for fans looking froward to playing The Last of Us 2 this week, as developer Naughty Dog has confirmed that the game will not hit retail as scheduled. The reason is exactly what you probably assumed – the coronavirus pandemic.

The Last of Us Part II was already nudged once, from February to the end of May, which of course is almost two months from now. Apparently though, that’s still a little too close for comfort for developer Naughty Dog.

The move is inarguably understandable since the viral pandemic has nearly whole countries on lockdown. True, Naughty Dog could just release it anyway, and make people either order by post or buy in digitally, but according to a twitter statement from the company, that’s not how they want to see their stellar looking sequel debut.

As you can see too, there isn’t a current date listed there. Like, any kind of date. There isn’t even a tentative release set up. ND appears to be taking things one day at a time, so the delay of game looks to be pretty open ended.

Bottom line: if you were planning on playing TLoU2 over the summer, or during a still-existing lockdown, you’re going to have to come with something else to do.

Still, we’re probably still in line to get the game some time this year. So look at it this way; your autumn gaming schedule just got a little more exciting.
