Troy: A Total War Saga launching free on Epic

The Epic Games Store on the PC is rolling, with another game debuting totally free. Sega’s newest Total War, Troy debuts this August.

It’s war

Has the narrative flipped yet as it pertains to the Epic Games Store? Pretty much since launch, the digital PC games shop has gotten derision from gamers thanks to it going head-to-head with Steam, the PC platform du jour.

That said, there does appear to be less and less negative talk about Epic’s storefront. The free games might be a part of that, as the company gives away multiple freebies, monthly.

Now their rolling promo is evolving, with free new games. The first of those is set to be Samurai Showdown Collection, and now we have announcement another with Troy: A Total War Saga.

Published by Sega and developed by The Creative Assembly, Troy takes players back to the age of the Trojan Wars. Fans will slip into the sandals of the likes of “Achilles, Hector, and many other legendary heroes as they fight to defend the great city of Troy… or raze it to the ground.”

“Thanks to Epic, we’re able to offer a Total War title for free on its launch day. It’s a hugely exciting thing for us to be able to do for our players,” says Tim Heaton, Chief Studios Officer at Sega Europe Ltd. “Not only does this mean that we can bring the tales and legends of TROY to a wide audience through Epic’s massive platform, but it also means new players will get to try Total War for the first time, experiencing the unique gameplay that the series is famous for.”

Troy: A Total War Saga will launch exclusively for the Epic Games Store for the PC on August 13th. The “free” promo is only good for the first 24 hours of release though, so if you want a copy, you better grab it fast.

Also, while it’ll have a one year delay, Troy will eventually make its way to Steam as well. That’ll be in August of 2021.
