Tune in to the Wholesome Direct for an indie good time

The slew of digital-only showcases is only increasing as we navigate through these uncertain times. The big hitters have events such as Summer Game Fest and Gamescom 2020 to showcase their upcoming projects. Publishers like Ubisoft and EA have also already earmarked the dates for their own events. But where does that leave the independent developers? Of course, the upcoming Guerrilla Collective is one option to give smaller studios and indie publishers a platform to show off their work. However, we now have one more option. For an entirely wholesome experience this May 26, tune in to the Wholesome Direct.

Feel-good times

Made possible by Wholesome Games, the Wholesome Direct will happen on Tuesday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. ET. The event will gather together and show off over 50 indie games. This includes titles such as the highly anticipated Ooblets. In fact, the whole idea of the Wholesome Direct is about games that are “less concerned with how you play (shooter, platformer, etc.) and more concerned with how they made you feel.”

Players can look forward to exclusive footage, developer interviews, and more announcements from titles like Spiritfarer, SkateBIRD, Little Witch in the Woods, Garden Story, Chicory, Rainy Season, and many more. Rather than be part of a sizzle reel or a montage, it is great to have a platform such as the Wholesome Direct to get a good look at interesting ideas brought to life. A curated list of indie games will finally get their chance to shine.

The Wholesome Direct is not part of Summer Game Fest, even if it represents a huge pillar of the gaming industry. It remains to be seen if it will make as much of an impact on the mainstream. Wholesome Games was founded in 2019 to help bring attention to games that evoked feelings. This event will be the first of its kind, and it could likely evolve into an annual affair.
