Valiant’s Book of Death is already its best-selling book ever

Before it even hits the streets, the first issue of Book of Death has already sold more than any Valiant Comics issue to date.

It’s a pretty mean feat, but Book of Death #1 has pre-sold more than anything else that Valiant Comics has put out at retail since it’s re-emergence as a publishing house a few years back. The comic has “initial orders” of 70,000 issues already, and there’s still two weeks to go till launch.

“BOOK OF DEATH is going to mark a major turning point in Valiant’s evolution as a publisher,” said Valiant Publisher Fred Pierce. “The success of BOOK OF DEATH speaks volumes about the passion of our brilliant creators, our staff, and the retailers that have helped us reach this point. We owe a huge thanks to them and can’t wait to put BOOK OF DEATH #1 into the hands of fans around the world. This is a series that is going to have a lasting impact on all corners of the Valiant Universe, and Robert Venditti, Robert Gill, and Doug Braithwaite have forged a phenomenal story that will captivate new readers and longtime fans alike.”

With numbers like the above, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that it already has. Then again, it’d kind of be funny if it didn’t. The Valiant U has become pretty darn popular with readers, and the heroes that populate it are some of the most unique and well-crafted in comics today. To offer a mini-series event surrounding how they all die should definitely garner more than its fair share of attention, which it most definitely has.
