Nintendo plans on granting buyers of the Wii U Deluxe Set a little digital bonus to help fill up that big Hard Drive.
The Deluxe Digital Promotion is a limited time rewards system just announced by Nintendo, and it’s one that’ll be exclusively for buyers of the 32GB ‘Wii U Deluxe Set’ and not the 8GB ‘Basic Set’.
So what’s the deal? In short, you get points for purchases that equate to rewards cash for use on the eShop. Here’s the example Nintendo gave in the press release today:
All Wii U Deluxe Set owners who purchase digital content for Wii U, including downloadable games in the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and download codes sold at select retail stores, will earn points with a value equivalent to approximately 10 percent of the Nintendo eShop list price of each purchase. For example, a game priced at $59.99, such as New Super Mario Bros. U, would earn 599 points. For every 500 points they earn, participants will receive a code worth $5 in credit to be used in the Nintendo eShop for either Wii U or Nintendo 3DS.
Now there are a few caveats with this deal. Only software purchased from Nintendo and third-party publishers from the Wii U Deluxe Set are eligible, the promo doesn’t extend to the Wii shop channel. Likewise, nothing bought from the Wii U Basic Set or 3DS counts either (even though you can use rewards points on the latter).
The Digital Deluxe Promotion starts on console launch day (November 18th) and runs through December 31st, 2014. You’ll need a Nintendo Network ID to take part in the online portion of things when the official website goes live sometime in December (so you might want to sign up now) and points must be used on your Wii U or 3DS by June 30th, 2015.
